Terms of service
Short, readable, and binding when you use the service. Last updated 19 October 2026.
These terms are an agreement between you and Scratch Storage (“we”) covering scratchstorage.com and the Scratch Storage app (the “service”). By creating an account or using the service you accept them. If you don’t, please don’t use it.
1. The service
The service is free of charge. Features may change, break or be removed as we work on them, and we may limit usage to keep the service healthy for everyone. We will try to warn you before anything disruptive, but we can’t promise uninterrupted availability or that any feature stays as it is.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 16 to use the service.
- You sign in with a magic link sent to your email. Anyone with access to that mailbox can access your account, so keep it secure.
- One account per person. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
3. Acceptable use
The service is a tool for organising, playing and exporting music you have the right to use. It is not a source of music. You agree to:
- upload and store only music you are entitled to use — your purchases, promos sent to you, releases licensed for sharing, your own productions;
- not resell, sublicense or redistribute content from the service, or use it to run a download or streaming service for others;
- not circumvent limits, probe for weaknesses, or interfere with other users or the infrastructure;
- not upload malware or anything unlawful.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules, and we will close the accounts of repeat infringers.
4. Your content, how files are stored and who can access them
You keep whatever rights you have in the files you upload. You give us the permission needed to store, analyse, stream, export and back up those files for you — nothing more. Three things to understand about how the service works:
- Your library is private. Other users can’t see or open what is in your library. Your files are only ever served to you. If you share a playlist or USB by link, anyone with the link sees its song list (titles, artists, covers, BPM and key) until you turn sharing off; they never get your files.
- Identical files are stored once. If two accounts upload exactly the same file, one copy exists and both libraries reference it; neither can see the other’s library. Deleting a track from your library removes your reference; the file itself is deleted when no library references it.
- We can access your account and library. The people who operate Scratch Storage can see account details and the contents of every library, including the files in it, through an admin console. We use that access only to run the service, give support, investigate abuse and respond to legal requests such as the copyright complaints below.
5. Copyright complaints and takedowns
We respect the rights of artists, labels and publishers. If you believe material available through the service infringes rights you own or represent, email rights@scratchstorage.com with:
- identification of the work you say is infringed (artist, title, release, and a link to an authorised copy if possible);
- enough detail for us to find the material on the service (the track title, artist and any identifiers you have);
- your name, organisation, address and email, and the capacity in which you act;
- a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by the rights holder, their agent or the law, that the information in your notice is accurate, and that you are authorised to act for the rights holder;
- your physical or electronic signature.
On a complete notice we remove or disable access to the material promptly, notify the affected users, and keep a record. Users who believe material was removed by mistake can send a counter-notice to the same address with the equivalent information; we may restore the material if the complainant does not pursue the matter within a reasonable period. Accounts that repeatedly infringe are closed.
6. Third-party services and trademarks
rekordbox, Serato, Engine OS, Traktor, Spotify and the hardware they run on belong to their respective owners and are governed by their own terms. Scratch Storage is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by AlphaTheta/Pioneer DJ, Serato, Denon DJ or Spotify. Names appear only to describe compatibility.
7. Our content
The service’s software, design and guides are ours or our licensors’. You may use them as part of the service and link to or quote the guides with attribution. Don’t copy the service itself.
8. Disclaimers
The service is provided “as is”. We don’t guarantee that every file you upload can be processed, that analysis is accurate, or that an exported USB stick works on a particular player. Test your stick before the gig.
9. Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses (a missed set, lost files you didn’t back up, lost profits) arising from the service, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim — which, as the service is free, is nothing. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited.
10. Ending things
You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time (see the privacy policy). We can suspend or end accounts that break these terms, or end the service with reasonable notice. Export your library first; the export is designed to work without us.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced on this page and, where appropriate, by email before they take effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new terms.
